PS3 Launch to be 80% Premium Systems
Market analysts are reporting that PS3 shipments will favor the premium system package over the core system by a split of 80/20. For those of you who are absolutely math retarded, that's 80% premium systems, and a mere 20% core systems, due at launch. It is believed this strategy is being put in place in an effort to reduce Sony's losses on building costs and on the core systems. It's nice to see they're giving us the choice in which system to purchase, really. As most of us already know, the difference in the two system packages is mainly as such: The core system is to feature a 20GB hard drive being priced at $499.99, and the premium system being a 60GB drive, card reader, HDMI output, and a few other perks (if you can call it that), for $599.99.
This is why I've previously stated that the Nintendo Wii approach is a favorable price point, even though some crazies out there might think otherwise.
