Wii with DVD

It has recently been announced that a DVD version of the Wii will be available in Japan within a year. There is no word whether this version will come other regions as well. This version will cost more, but it has not been suggested by how much, and as of now, there are no other known differences. Further, if you were hoping you could just get a firmware upgrade, this does not seem to be possible, you would have to buy a completely new system.

To me, it doesn't make much sense, and I certainly would not wait nor purchase another Wii just for DVD compatability.
