Halo Film Postponed

Earlier this month it was reported that two financial backers for the Halo film, Universal Studios and 20th Century, backed out after unsuccessfully trying to renegotiate terms for the film. It had also been leaked that costs for the film skyrocketed, leaving producers to wonder what kind of profit could be made if the film performed poorly.

"At this time Microsoft, Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh have mutually agreed to postpone making a feature film based on the Halo video game," Microsoft said in a statement earlier today. "While it will undoubtedly take a little longer for Halo to reach the big screen, we are confident that the final feature film will be well worth the wait," said the company.

The wildly popular Xbox game, headed by Oscar award winner Peter Jackson and his "Lord of the Rings" team, was supposed to hit U.S. theaters sometime around the summer of 2008. Will the film ever get the proper green light? I certainly would not look forward to it happening in the next 5-6 years. If Halo is still popular in that time, maybe the film counterpart can get another shot.

Video game movies don't have a great success rate.

But if MS really wanted this movie, they have the money to fund it...
