Best Buy PS3 Pre-Order A No-Go

A few days ago a small rumor emerged with details concerning retail outlet Best Buy taking online pre-orders for Sony's PS3 console. Somehow a link was leaked and many eager customers flocked online hoping to get in an order before the inevitable sell-out. However, in a letter issued by Best Buy today, it was made clear that they had never intended for such a form to be made available to customers and subsequently all orders were cancelled. No word yet on how the PS3 order form was made available in the first place.

In addition to the letter of apology, Best Buy generously gave $10 gift cards to all those who made the effort in vain. Though I'm sure there's bound to be thousands of gamers pissed off by the sudden revelation, with the ever-rising popularity in identity theft crimes I imagine it could have been worse had the wrong people thought of it. In any case there are now less than two weeks until the big debut arrives. Good luck to those who plan on waiting in lines overnight.
