iPod Gaming in the Works

Almost everyone has an iPod. If you don't, you will... it's inevitable. In a stunning move announced today by Apple's Steve Jobs, the sixth-generation of iPod will support, you guessed it, video games!

You will be able to purchase games via iTunes for a bitter old price of $4.99, coming very soon. Expect to see quite a few classic titles configured for the iPod's scroll-wheel interface. Thus far Apple's new games division has announced Bejeweled, Mahjong, PacMan and Tetris. If you don't have a new sixth-generation iPod, fear not, the upcoming games are slated to work on older "5G" models as well. So you can put your tissue box away and wipe off that tear drop there homeslice, it's all good.

Kudos goes to Engadget for the coverage photos. You're my hero.

Hey now, not only do I not have an iPod, I didn't have any MP3 player of any type til a month ago (and this is quite a primitive one at that).

Apple is certianly trying to stay ahead of the curve with the iPod, as it is responsable for keeping their company above water. For some reason, people are willing to pay the price they ask.

I'm still awaiting a competitor to undercut them in pricing while making a somewhat comprable product without being an obviously inferrior product. It can be done, it will be done.

But yes, this is only the next possible step for them. The next version after this 6G or whatever may actually be capable of more complex games, possibly competing with the PSP and DS???
